Lesnes Abbey...

We woke to a nice sunny day. The Man hd a bit of a sleep in while I got up to play on the putor, Then my fantastic man hit the kitchen and prepared a yummy brekky of bacon, eggs, mushies, and tomatoes. Nomnomnom. He is just the best. I think my most favourite part is where the toast soaks up all the lovely tomato juices and gets all soggy. Heaven.
So where will we go today? While The Man had a play on the putor I got the local map book out to see if I could find us a not too far away destination.  And there it was.
After lunch we wandered down to the bus stop and got the 249 to Anerly, then the Southern to London Bridge. Right outside the Main entrance at London bridge Station is The Shard, a  most impressive building.   Transferring to a Southeastern we were pretty soon trundling on our way to Abbey Wood, where we followed the signs to the ruins of Lesnes Abbey.

Founded in 1178, but Henry VIII caused its destruction at the dissolution of the Monasteries between 1536 and 1541, when he appropriated their income and disposed of their assets.
We wandered around the tidy ruins, imaging how the great church might have been, following in the footsteps of long gone monks who chanted their way around the Cloisters, took their meals in the refectory and had their meetings in the chapter house.

Then The man and I had a very pleasant stroll through the woods themselves, encountering some of the local wildlife before retracing our footsteps to the station and back to crustal palace in time for tea.
 Evening view from our window.
