Geriatric OE

The weekly musing of a couple of Kiwis on their geriatric OE in The UK

Another lazy Sunday at Crystal Palace...

Sometimes you just have to stop tripping around and get the housework done. That is after a good brekky of bacon, eggs and mushrooms very tastily prepared by The Man. Nom nom nom.

He’s a great bloke my man. While I was tackling the bathroom he ran the vacuum cleaner around the rest of our little flat.

Both of us have had a good chuck out too, of magazines and brochures that we have been collecting, so we were feeling doubly virtuous. In amongst the brochures I came across a picture taken of us two and The Man’s sister and brother-in-law taken when we all went to the Edinburgh Tattoo, wow, that was way back in September 2010.

It really was too nice a day to spend all of it indoors so we decided that a nice stroll in the park was the order of the afternoon.
The park is very well used by sportsfolks and families alike. It boasts a great sports complex that houses pools, indoor rock climbing, gyms, squash courts, and a café among its facilities. In the grounds the beach volleyball courts were all occupied.
We walked on a bit further to look over the remote control car track, but only one quiet saloon was running around the convoluted track. Down on the flat area the little kids playground was buzzing with activity and laughter.

We stopped in at the outside café for a latte and a muffin and something absolutely astounding happened to us there.

And what was it.

Well we like our muffins warmed a little and they were actually able to do it for us. Every other place we have been into over here, and I mean every, the counter staff look amazed when we ask them to warm the tasty morsels. And the answer has always been, until today, no because they don’t have a microwave.

With the park so close it’s like having the Wellington Botanical Gardens on our doorstep. OK so there isn’t the abundance of flower beds that Wellington's gardens has , but apart from that and the dinosaurs, it is.

Speaking of the large and terrible lizards, they look really good in amongst the new spring growth don’t you think?
