A bit cool this morning and wet too. Down to single
figures and while we didn’t need the brollys on the way in we certainly did on
the way out this evening.
Nowhere near as bad as the weather has been back home
in New Zealand though. Road closures, trees down and the odd container blown over
too. Pretty breezy.
Thousands of homes remain without power this morning as authorities begin
the clean up after yesterday's storm - and brace for heavy rain. Around 1800 homes were yet to be reconnected in Wairarapa, Manawatu and Whanganui, lines company Powerco says, with Canterbury electricity company Orion reporting 200 without power this morning.
In Lower Hutt, 1000 properties in the Eastbourne and Gracefield areas lost power, while 190 homes in Titahi Bay in Porirua were cut off last night, but Wellington Electricity spokesman Drew Douglas said power should be restored by this morning.
Delays were expected for travellers out of Wellington airport this morning, with many being re-booked to fly out today after flights were cancelled yesterday.
Flights were scheduled to resume today, and all international flights departed on time this morning, airport spokeswoman Briarley Kirk said.
Travellers were advised to check with their airline or on the Wellington Airport website www.wellingtonairport.co.nz for their flights status.
