Maggie Thatcher and a back pack

Wednesday 18 Jan. 2012
Wow what a great movie. Tonight we went to see Meryl Streep in The Iron Lady. There were so many parallels between the political situation then and now. Strikes, unemployment, demonstrations, violence, and bombings, could have been from today’s news instead of more than 20 years ago. This amazing actress has caught the presence of the incredible woman that was and is Margaret Thatcher. I have to admit that I have never thought much of M. T .as a person, or as a politician, but my mind has been changed. If the movie only portrays a tenth of the reality of the political situation and the woman then she deserves acclaim. She was a ground-breaking woman in what was totally a man’s world and despite her critics she stuck to her principles.
It was hard to see where Meryl Streep stopped and Maggie Thatcher started. This talented actress must have more that a drop or two of chameleon blood running through her veins. She becomes her characters, from Cruella De Ville in 101 Dalmatians, to The Devil Wears Prada and Mama Mia, there is no way you could use the word type cast about this incredibly taleneted woman.
On our way to the theatre we came across a back pack all by itself on the ground. We looked all around for its owner before picking it up and taking to with us. We know exactly how it feels to have such an item stolen. In the pack was a wallet with bank cards, a smart phone and an ipod touch. We took it to security on Canary Wharf and I am happy to be able to say that by the time we arrive home half an hour later they had located the owner and reunited him with his possessions.
